ANNOUNCEMENT OF SEARCH FOR CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE

Dallas, March 16, 2018 -The General Staff of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) is announcing a national search to identify and recruit candidates for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organization.

The CAF is a national nonprofit organization headquartered at Dallas Executive Airport. Founded in 1957 and chartered in 1961, the CAF is committed to restore, preserve and exhibit its collection of flying World War II aircraft. Today, it is the world’s largest flying museum with over 170 aircraft representing more than 60 different types. The fleet of historic aircraft, known as the Ghost Squadron, is supported by over 12,000 volunteers organized in unit/locations in 26 states and four foreign countries.

The CAF Ghost Squadron reminds and reinforces the lessons learned from defining moments in American military aviation history. The CAF embraces an education mission, assuring “that generations of Americans will value and support the contributions of military aircraft and aviation in assuring our nation’s freedom”.

More than 12,000 members are the backbone of the CAF; they raise funds; restore, fly and maintain the aircraft; design and deliver education programming; and engage the local community at events, honoring veterans and exciting young people about aviation. These efforts are supported by a staff of 28 and the efforts of volunteer leaders at 85 chartered Unit locations around the United States and in four other countries.

The CAF continues on a growth trajectory, and the organization now seeks a distinguished executive to lead a dynamic, uniquely positioned, volunteer-rich membership organization with a notable education mission and ample opportunities for engagement and service. The new CEO will collaborate with several stakeholders—the General Staff, headquarters team, unit leadership, members, other volunteers and donors—in crafting an updated strategic plan and vision for the organization, and overseeing multiple initiatives already underway.

Competitive candidates for the CEO position will have a college degree and prior experience: leading an enterprise (including strategy, finance, and staff management); serving a significant role in a member driven organization; fundraising; and directing internal and external communications. A background reporting to or serving on a philanthropic board and involvement with a capital campaign are also desired. A passion for aviation is a must.
