Aransas Pass, Texas - November 15, 2017- CAF Col Pearson Knolle, Unit Leader of The Maxine Flournoy Third Coast Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) announced that the organization will hold its 10th Patriotic Speaker Series Dinner on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on board the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay. Tables of 10 are $1,000; individual tickets are $75 and $50 for active military. The deadline for reservations is January 31, 2018.
This year’s guest speaker, Mr. Don Graves, is a WWII survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima. Graves entered the Marine Corp upon hearing that Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. He was 19 years old when he, carrying a 70 lb. flame thrower strapped to his back, was in the third wave of Marines to land on Iwo Jima. He tells of the conditions of the landing and the fierce battle to overtake the island. The fighting lasted 36 days resulting in 26,000 men wounded and 6,800 Marines dead.
The Third Coast Squadron’s mission is to establish and maintain a presence in the community so as to preserve and exhibit the Coastal Bend’s involvement in the history of those men and women who served in the past and still serve in today's military. The Squadron believes in and adheres to the CAF mission of teaching and preserving history through restoring the aircraft and memories of the people who paid the ultimate price for our freedom from World War II to the present.
