On August 27th, head to Waukesha County Airport to be part of the aviation event of the summer in Waukesha County. The first ever Gathering of Warbirds, organized by the CAF  Wisconsin Wing will feature several vintage military aircraft on display, airplane rides, and more aviation activities. Gathering of Warbirds aims to honor military veterans and to get people interested in aviation by providing the chance to see rare military aircraft up close and hear from veterans about their fight for freedom.

Rarely seen outside of museums, many famous warplanes will be on display like the P-40 Warhawk, P-51 Mustang, and F-86 Sabre jet fighter which have been restored and maintained to their impressive original condition. Attendees can even meet the pilots and learn about what it’s like to fly one of these pieces of flying history. Military vehicles will also be on display, along with World War Two re-enactors.

Stars and Stripes Honor Flight has partnered with the event organizers and will be at the event with several of the veterans who took the flight to Washington, DC to see the war memorials and monuments. One World War II veteran, who was a torpedo bomber pilot, is excited to share his experiences of flying missions against Japanese navy vessels in the Pacific.
