CAF Central Texas Wing Memorial Day Open House
May 30, 2016 the CAF Central Texas Wing will host a Memorial Day Open House at the San Marcos Regional Airport. This event will celebrate those who served and honor the sacrifices made to keep our country free. Memorial Day is a day to remember ancestors, family members and loved ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice. It is also a day to appreciate and enjoy our freedoms as well.
The CAF Central Texas Wing will have vintage military aircraft on static display at the authentic World War II-era hangar.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see the P-39 Airacobra, one of the only two flying the world, a U.S. Navy C-45 almost completely restored, the AT-6 advanced trainers and a USMC OY-1 Sentinal that was actually flown in the Pacific during World War II. Other attractions include a 1916 Republic military truck that is in restoration, a fully restored 1942 Willy’s U.S. Army Jeep, and the actual cockpit of a Navy Blue Angels A-4 Skyhawk. “Our aircraft are maintained and operated by volunteer members who donate countless hours to the meticulous care of each airplane” said Wing Leader Bill Fier.
