The Maxine Flournoy Third Coast Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), will hold its 7th Patriotic Speaker Series Dinner on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 6 - 9 p.m. on board USS Lexington Museum on the Bay to celebrate 74 Years of USO History in South Texas and honor Judge Loyd Neal for his many years of public service and support of our military and the United Service Organizations (USO).
CAF Col Pearson Knolle, Squadron Leader, said “this year’s speaker will be Major Leffler Lloyd Ramey, USAF, Retired. Ramey earned his wings just prior to the end of World War II and was discharged shortly after.He was called back to active duty during the Korean War where he served as a JOC duty officer and flew many missions in various aircraft. During Vietnam he served as an air commando (special clandestine operations) and flew reconnaissance missions thoughout South Vietnam flying a U-10.
“The United Service Organizations (USO) of South Texas is the second oldest USO in the world. President Franklin D. Roosevelt called together several organizations to form one organization to support our American military and their families and that first USO location was opened Feb. 4, 1941 in New York City. The very second location to open was USO in Corpus Christi, Texas to support the young aviators at NAS Corpus Christi on April 4, 1941,” said Nancy Allen, USO South Texas President and CEO.
The event will recognize the Honorable Judge Loyd Neal for his dedication and support of local public services and military families. Judge Neal is a USO South Texas Ambassador. He organized the South Texas Military Facilities Task Force in the early 1990’s and continues to serve on several military related boards.
“The Squadron is honored to work with the USO in presenting this year’s event celebrating 74 years of USO history in South Texas” said CAF Col Knolle. The Squadron’s strives to maintain a permanent presence in the community so as to preserve and illustrate the Coastal Bend's involvement in our military history as well as honor the service men and women from the past to those that serve today. The Squadron works to achieve the Commemorative Air Force's mission of teaching and preserving history through restoring the aircraft and memories of the people who paid the ultimate price for our freedom from World War II to the present.
The Patriotic Speaker Series Dinner will be held March 26, 2015 from 6 - 9 p.m. on board USS Lexington, 2914 N. Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, Texas 78402. A steak dinner will be served and a cash bar will be available starting at 6 p.m.
